Mayweather vs. Mcgregor: Who will win and what are the earnings?
The upcoming fight between Floyd Mayweather, an undefeated professional boxer, against Connor Mcgregor the new MMA sensation, has drawn much attention towards martial arts in these last few weeks.

Floyd Mayweather has been named as the best fighter of this era, due to his fifteen world titles wins, using an unbeaten defensive style. However, despite this success he is set to face a mixed martial arts fighter known as Connor Mcgregor.

Connor Mcgregor, a UFC champion, is an icon in his mixed martial arts discipline being: the reigning UFC Lightweight champion and former Featherwight Champion. The fans of Connor Mcgregor suggest that he will be the one to break Floyd's undefeated record, due to his powerful striking ability. They have also declared that Mcgregor will demonstrate how MMA is the best martial arts sport in the world. This has drawn much attention, and money to a fight which is expected to be one of the biggest in boxing history.

Many followers of boxing believe that Connor Mcgregor, who has never boxed professionally before, will not come close to touching "Money" Mayweather. In fact, the complete mismatch of fighters has stunned many boxing fans on social media. The recurring message on social media from professional boxers is that Connor Mcgregor stands no chance of beating the best pound-for-pound fighter, and that they are not willing to support a fight which is "all about the money".

If the fight is “all about the money” which fighter would benefit the most from their victory?

Recently within the boxing and MMA industry, money has become the center point of measuring success in each fighting community. Floyd himself has gained the majority of his reputation and success off the back of his self-promotion “Money Mayweather” brand.

Throughout Floyd Mayweathers' career, he has become one of the most well paid boxers in the world. His lavish lifestyle has cemented his legacy as “Money” Mayweather, with this upcoming bout set to push his career earnings up to $1 billion dollars. So, this will surely be the fight to crown his undefeated career.

However, it should also be considered that Connor Mcgregor is set to earn huge amounts from the fight. Gennady Golovkin, a WBA middleweight champion, declared "This [Mayweather-McGregor] is not for fighters, but business", and Mcgregor shall be earning around $100 million dollars for the fight.

Controversy surrounding the fight

The hype and money surrounding the fight has led to controversy. Some have claimed "the fight has been over hyped by the media to boost the fighters earnings". The prospect of greed and real intentions of the fighters has been questioned, and pundits have suggested that this could danger the reputation of the sport.

However, watchers of boxing and MMA cannot deny that this fight will be one to watch, especially if Connor Mcgregor can break Mayweathers' undefeated record. If Connor Mcgregor manages to win the fight, it will go down as one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. “Can Connor Mcgregor achieve this?” is on everyone's tongue, and all eyes will be one two fighters on the 25th of August, to see if the fight is actually worth the enormous hype.

The fight will be shown on Sky Sports Box Office for £19.95 in the UK on the 26th of August… and it is not one to be missed.
