Find A Local Children's Martial Arts Class This Easter!
With the Easter holidays fast approaching, it's not long until hundreds of thousands of children all over the UK slip back in to the habit of sitting inside playing on their various computer games. It's important for children to make the most of the time where they're out of the class room. Why not sign them up to a martial arts class? Help them get active and learn something new.

Why should your child go to a martial arts class?

Public Health England guidelines suggest that children between 5 and 18 should take part in physical activity for at least 60 minutes a day. Recently, a study showed that over 75% of children weren't even getting half of their recommended exercise. It might not be easy to separate your kids from the TV, that’s why you need an exciting and engaging new activity for them. Such as Martial Arts!

How does martial arts benefit children?

Activity: Martial artists are widely considered to be some of the fittest athletes in the professional sport circuit. Martial Arts gives the unique opportunity to strengthen and tone muscles, improve agility, have a better posture and increase flexibility. It is also a great way to encourage child weight loss and improve stamina. There aren't many activities that combine all of these benefits.

Conflict Resolution: Many people mistake martial arts for being aggressive. A good instructor will always teach their pupil that words are justify a physical alteration. Having the skills to beat someone in a physical alteration doesn't mean that your child will enter in to one, but they'll have a greater appreciation of the power they possess and therefore avoid them.

Focus: Children are very dependant on technology. Martial Arts is a great way of breaking this dependency. There are a lot of benefits of taking a little bit of time to step away from such distractions and becoming focused and relaxed through martial arts. Martial Arts classes are free from distractions such as TV's and loud music. This focus that is developed in martial arts classes is transferable to other sports and school. Focus is a valuable life lesson.

Fun and Social: Probably the most important reason to attend a class.. They're fun! It's a great chance to interact with other like-minded children and develop their social skills.

Self Respect and Self Confidence: Martial arts is a great way for a child to develop their confidence and self esteem. Learning a new skill and seeing progress through gradings is very satisfying. Of course, martial arts doesn't come without a dose of humility. There is always a bigger fish!

Which Martial Arts style is best for children?

This is often the first thing that a parent will ask. Which class is most suitable for my child? This can be a little confusing as there are a lot of options available. Luckily for you, I have a few suggestions of styles your child might like to try:

Children's Taekwondo Class – This is one of the most popular classes amongst children as the emphasis is on self defence. Taekwondo teachers a variety of grapples, strikes, holds and blocks in order to ground an opponent.

Children's Ju-Jitsu Class – Ju Jitsu focuses on a variety of strikes and grapples that can be used to disarm an opponent. It is slightly more aggressive than other forms of martial arts.

Children's Karate Class – Karate is one of the most traditional forms of martial arts. Karate uses defensive blocking, striking and kicking as well as including a large emphasis on respect and mental attitude. It is this that has made it so popular with parents.

Children's Judo Class – Judo focuses less on striking, and more on grappling and submission techniques. You might have seen it in the Olympics!
